At Church of the Reconciler, we believe in community. Community heals us. Community encourages us. Community challenges us. Community can be the difference in getting back on our feet or staying where we are, which, let’s face it—sometimes isn’t great.

We believe everyone can participate in community that crosses differences of age, race, gender, income, politics, and any of the things society often sees as dividing lines. We see God’s Kingdom piercing through the darkness every time a barrier is broken, people are uplifted, and the community builds a positive environment.

We’d like you to join our community and our mission of ending poverty, not through handing out free stuff, but by building relationships with some of Birmingham’s hardest working but most vulnerable people. We have experienced that these status-defying relationships uplift everyone involved because God is working through them, and God works miracles.

Of course coming together over differences brings challenges as well, but we believe church should be a place where we can struggle together, and that struggle helps us grow as individuals and as a community.

We believe everyone has spiritual gifts to offer their community and the world. How you participate is up to you, of course, but you might participate in activities such as:

  • Greeting new folks

  • Checking people’s mail

  • Helping homeless find immediate shelter and care

  • Recycle plastic and create cool items

  • Play music or sing in our band

  • Serve coffee and give out food

  • Create art for our building

  • Become spiritually enriched in our prayer times or community table activities like yoga

  • Be there to listen and love

  • Help clean (hah, you knew this was coming!)

  • Whatever you specifically feel called to do and much more
